Canon Rebel XT (8.0 Megapixel): Basic Operations

Before you start

: Make sure the camera battery is fully charged

Format the memory card

Review time: I suggest, “Hold”

Auto power off: I suggest, “Off”

Remember, turn camera off before removing the memory card

Set the Quality to L (Large Fine)

Set the ISO Speed (note: not accessible when in Full Auto Exposure Mode)

100 daylight

200-400 low light

800-1600 night

Note: lower ISO numbers are preferable and produce cleaner images

Set the Exposure Mode to P (Program)

Exposure Modes

Full Auto, all settings are done by the camera

P Program AE (Auto Exposure), similar to Full Auto but allows some settings in regards to Exposure, Aperture, Continuous Shooting and Flash

Tv Shutter Speed Priority, you set the shutter speed and the camera sets the aperture

Av Aperture Priority, you set the aperture and camera sets the shutter speed

M Manual, all exposure settings are manual

A-dep Automatic Depth-of-Field, allows you set a depth-of-field priority range

Image Quality Settings (accessible via the Menu button)

Setting Total Pixels Compression Total per 2GB card

Large Fine 3456x2304 JPEG/low 471 images

Large Normal 3456x2304 JPEG/high 942 images

Medium Fine 2496x1664 JPEG/low 818 images

Medium Normal 2496x1664 JPEG/low 999+ images

Small Fine 1728x1152 JPEG/low 999+ images

Small Normal 1728x1152 JPEG/high 999+ images

RAW+L 3456x2304 RAW + JPEG/high 140 images

RAW 3456x2304 RAW 201 images

INFO Allows one to set a number of camera settings via the LCD screen

JUMP Allows one to jump around the index of photographs 10 images at a time

and enlarge images to see sections of it

TRASH Allows one to trash individual images or groups of images
